Portugal could reach ‘herd immunity’ by August

Task force coordinator Henrique Gouveia e Melo believes Portugal could reach the point where 70% of the population has been vaccinated by the middle, or even the beginning of August. The 70% mark has always been described as the moment where the country will have ‘herd immunity’. Initial projections were for this to come in September, but a reinforcement in vaccine supply during the second and third trimesters could bring the moment forward by roughly a month as long as authorities manage to vaccinate an average of 100,000 people per day, the video conference with Infarmed specialists this afternoon has heard.
